Electrical insulators quality are highlighted by all types of insulator test. Since insulator type test only need to be done when develop a new product, and to make type test to make sure the design of the insulator is no problem. So roution test and sample test is a must for every factory to confirm good quality of insulators.
The final insulator inspection defines inspection and test on assembled insulators. It is mainly according to IEC standard, BS standard, ANSI standard, GB standard and customers’ requirement or drawings.
Insulator routine test:
Except visual inspection on each high voltage insulator, the following routine tests will also be carried out on each insulator to make sure they can withstand a certain value.
Tension load test: normally half of the rated mechanical load.
flashover test: will be performed on puncture type insulator.
Insulator Sample Test:
The following tests are carried out on a fixed number of samples randomly selected from a lot according to IEC60383.
Porcelain Insulator sample test: according to IEC60383 or ANSI29.1.
Verification of dimensions.
Verification of axial, radial and angular displacements: for disc suspension insulator.
Verification of the locking system: for porcelain disc suspension insulator.
Temperature cycle test.
Electromechanical failing load test: except suspension insulator, all other insulator types will only do mechanical failing lost test.
Power frequency dry withstand voltage test: for composite insulator.
After the insulator test has been completed and consider the insulator have passed all the tests, the insulators will be transferred to the packaging procedure.
